Blackmill Spinney Boutique B&B is a spacious and contemporary retreat nestled in three acres between Chichester and Arundel in West Sussex. It is ran by Lisa who prides herself on customer experience ensuring that her guests feel welcome and at home during their stay and leave with full stomachs after the very generous breakfast each morning!


A few months ago, Lisa found herself heading into her busiest period at the B&B – summer! Summer is a time where the location of Blackmill Spinney brings flocks of guests to stay due to the events being held nearby at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival are to name a few of these famous events. You may have heard of them even if you are not local to the area.


Lisa found the business at a time of change. Her bookkeeper had just resigned and Blackmill was looking to relocate office space within the grounds of the B&B. She was looking for more than just a bookkeeper – someone that could not only look after the daily financial transactions but also to assist her with changing her ways of working to become more efficient.


Busy Bee Business Solutions started by concentrating on the financials. Blackmill was already using QuickBooks Online but due to regular changes in bookkeepers in the past, had no continuity. Busy Bee set to work at a spring clean for Blackmill by streamlining the historic data in QuickBooks Online and ensuring that the system was up to date and accurate going forward. We now help Lisa account for her bookings through the popular industry booking system Eviivo into QuickBooks Online and snap photos of receipts and bills using Receipt Bank meaning no more paperwork in the office.


With this being said, we also set to work at condensing the huge amount of physical folders that were being kept in the office space. Many records were very old and no longer were required to be kept. At this point, there was paperwork and receipts in abundance. Lisa struggled to find information when she required it. With a simple tidy up with some new ring binders (and a very worn out shredder) we halved the 40 folders we started with to about 20 over the coming weeks with organised dividers and a simple and easy system to catagorise certain documents.


We are now working with Lisa on getting social media channels set up to promote Blackmill Spinney as well as revamping their website to allow it to reflect the look and feel of the property when guests come to stay.

With the help of Busy Bee Business Solutions, not only is Blackmill Spinneys bookkeeping in order, the office environment is streamlined and stress free. Lisa no longer has to worry about the financials and is now exploring new and exciting opportunities for the future of her business.
